Save Canvas

"Save Canvas" is a collaborative art installation by MPLS artists Aaron Bickner and Andrew Shannon in affiliation with Overproof. This project sees the prevalence of stalled redevelopments and vacant buildings in Minneapolis as an opportunity for reflection and creative reaction.

The entire project was produced with reused materials, hence the title “Save Canvas”. Three buildings were given new life by the artists; a mural stretched down downtown Nicollett and 10th Ave where a vacant building turned into a larger than life pop up book. The project was illuminated for the public to see late into the evening, encouraging outsiders to look in. A gallery showing process prints and shirts designed by the artists, (printed on shirts found at thrift stores) the installation ran through the month of August 2009.
